Mr Jonathan Insall-Reid

Headmaster of the Senior School

I welcome your interest in Claremont Fan Court School’s Senior School and Sixth Form. We are a growing academically selective school of 420 senior students (year 7 through to the Sixth Form) with an outstanding reputation for nurturing each child’s character, academic and co-curricular excellence. Within the Elmbridge community, Claremont Fan Court is a school of fine traditions and cutting edge educational thinking that will prepare our girls and boys for GCSE and A level examinations with the goal of securing places at the best British and overseas universities.

At Claremont, academic and pastoral care go hand in hand. It is possible to have the highest academic standards - over 97% pass at A level for the past eight years - as well as the outstanding and distinctive quality of care, the development of individuality and a social conscience, for which Claremont Fan Court School is well known. We can offer this by teaching in small class sizes – no more than 20 in a class at years 7,8 and 9 which falls to 16 in a class at GCSE. Sixth Form classesare typically 5-12 students per class. Our tutors and Year Heads support careful and close monitoring of each child. Heads of Departments and Faculties are very focused on academic breadth and standards and continually work to support progressive and effective teaching. Your child can expect the very best education here, taught by a dedicated team of staff who all embrace our values and family atmosphere. Our commitment is clear; The best teaching staff qualified in their subject, high quality, specialised learning environments, and a ‘world of opportunity’ in academic and co-curricular programmes, underpinned by our strong Christian values.

Introducing the New Year Heads for September 2010

We have a broad range of students from many cultures and faiths yet we have a very English focus, and our broad subject offering linked with our cutting edge technology enables us to nurture students who gain an international outlook, who are challenged academically and who develop their natural spirituality. They build a steely determination while knowing they are held responsible for running their lives and contributing to those of their friends. They are taught to make a positive difference at home, at school, in their lives and in the world. Claremont students are invariably happy, successful and generous who mature into fine young adults. They are encouraged to explore new ideas, try new activities, develop new skills and make new, lasting friendships. They become leaders for life based on the values, experiences and education we have given them.

Sixth Form Prefects

The Senior School is centred in the mansion building set in the middle of one hundred acres of Capability Brown landscape forming our safe and happy campus. Mathematics, English, languages, humanities and arts are taught within the mansion. Further specialist buildings house science labs, music and drama facilities, technology and IT rooms, the sports hall and gymnasium. With playing surfaces including lacrosse, netball, football, rugby and tennis on site and room to spare at the door, this environment encourages an awareness of our world and our responsibility for it. There is space to live and breathe here, without the hectic chasing that is often associated with school. The buildings, setting, and ethos all contribute to a purposeful peacefulness that visitors frequently remark upon.
Over recent years, we have increased our academic standard for entry to the Senior School and we expect every girl and boy to achieve their personal best in their exams, which in many cases are all A grades. But an education system only based on passing exams fails our children. Being an all-round school means truly educating a child for life, and developing their 'intelligence' in the broadest way. I want Claremont Fan Court School to become one of the most respected and admired co-educational independent senior schools in the UK, not necessarily for its place in the rankings but because of the pioneering and transforming education it gives the girls and boys that come here.

The most recent Independent Schools Inspection notes:

It has become a leader in combining independent learning and technology to provide a stimulating learning environment from which staff and pupils gain impressive benefits.

Educating children is a great responsibility and privilege. If you are a parent of a child already at the school, thank you for entrusting us with that job. If you are considering sending your child to Claremont Fan Court, please come and see the school, meet children and staff and talk to me about my vision for the Senior School in the coming years. We welcome your interest and encourage you to join us in person for one of our regular tours of the campus to discover for yourself, the benefit of an independent education for your child, at Claremont Fan Court School.

I look forward to meeting with you and your family.
