Our Foundation
Beginnings
Claremont Fan Court School was founded in 1978 by the amalgamation of Claremont (a school for girls) with Fan Court School, a co-educational school in Chertsey. Today the school has some 620 pupils aged 3-18 years old and has recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.
We aim to offer an excellent academic programme that provides pupils with a wide and varied curriculum and the opportunity to discover where their individual strengths and interests lie. The expectation is for high achievement in their academic study, sporting and cultural activities. Emphasis is placed on ethical and spiritual values and the expectation of high moral standards. Their ability to use knowledge rightly and to be an influence for good is fundamental to the ethos of the school.
The Claremont Foundation
Claremont Fan Court is owned and run by an educational foundation with charitable status, and inspired by the principles of Christian Science. We strive to recognise each child as an individual expression of God, and set high expectations from a spiritual perspective which allows each child's unlimited potential to flourish.
The school is a rich global community of families from many nationalities and religions. While pupils and parents are expected to understand and support the school's aims, we have no formal connection with the Christian Science Church and Christian Science is not taught as a subject.
You can find out more about Christian Science on the church's website or by contacting us for more information.
What is Christian Science?
The attached talk was given to the members of the PTA on Monday 12th November in response to their request to learn more about Christian Science. The theme of the talk entitled “What is Christian Science? Removing the myths and mysteries” was chosen by them because they were aware of so many inaccuracies and misconceptions about Christian Science in the general public and they wanted a clear explanation.
