Assessment for Years 7 to 10 entry into the Senior School
Children will be assessed in mathematics, verbal reasoning and English (whch includes a free-writing exercise).
Children entering Claremont Fan Court Senior School will be expected to demonstrate that they are capable academically and socially. The School affirms that development of character goes hand in hand with development of academic skills. Character is assessed by a reference from the child's current school. Following the tests, each child is invited to talk with a senior member of staff for 15 minutes about their interests, their school activities, the way they approach their studies and their good qualities.
As a guide for the assessment of academics at year 7, prospective pupils should be working towards achieving a good level 4 or better in each of their KS2 tests. The concepts tested within the Senior School Year 7 entrance examinations in English comprehension and maths are based on the KS2 National Curriculum. To further help preparation, the School has produced a specimen mathematics paper and mark scheme, both of which can be downloaded below. Practice English and verbal reasoning papers are available commercially.
Extra time will be allowed in the entrance exam if there is appropriate evidence to support the request. A copy of an educational psychologist or specialist teacher report (carried out in Key Stage 2) should be sent to the school with the initial application. Requests for extra time must be received before the end of the autumn term.
