EcoSchools

The school has an appreciation of the way in which its activities have an effect on the extended communities we serve and on the wider communities we all share. We are all working toward building sutainability and environmental awareness into our present activities and future development. Students already cover these important issues as part of their work in a variety of subjects and the school is constantly looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact, both locally and globally.

The school has embarked upon a programme using, The Ecoschools scheme as a focus, that will give students, staff and parents the opportunities to be involved in the reduction of our environmental impact and to promote sustainable development. Currently we have convened an Action Team composed of teachers, administation staff, parents and students who are developing and co-ordinating the activities within the Lower Junior School, the Upper Junior School and the Senior School. With the help of the Sixth Form they carried out an environmental audit of the school and asked the students how they felt that the school was tackling issues in areas such as:

Energy use
Water use
Recycling
Transport

The students were also asked which issues they felt were important to them.

Using the students responses as a guide the Ecoschools committee decided to tackle the three main issues that students felt were most important. These were:

Recycling
Energy use
Transport

These areas are the focus for developments over the next three terms. To publicise the work of the Ecoschools committee and the students work there are noticeboards in Lower Juniors, Upper Juniors and Senior School and information can also be found on this web page.

Recycling

Each classroom and office has been furnished with a blue recycling bin to collect waste paper which is then transferred to our main collection bin situated next to the UJS. In future we would like to extend recycling to cover all materials that could, potentially, be recycled.

Ecoschools Awards

As a result of the efforts of the Ecoschools commitee and the students the school has been awarded the Ecoschools Bronze  and Silver Awards in recognition of their achievements towards working towards a sutainable lifestyle
