ICT

Introduction
This is an exciting time to study Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at Claremont Fan Court School as it is taught to all pupils from Year 7 through to Year 11. Work is differentiated so that pupils of all abilities can take pride in their achievements. Students are given individual targets and encouraged to meet and exceed these targets. They are further encouraged to explore independent learning. Gifted and Talented pupils are given extension tasks allowing them to develop their ideas and skills to a higher level.  All pupils are expected to follow an ICT Code of Conduct.

Aims and philosophy
The ICT Department has high expectations of all their pupils. Great emphasis is placed on exemplary behaviour, enthusiasm to achieve and exceed targets, and a mature approach to the use of equipment and presentation of work. Homework is set on a weekly basis and is expected to be completed within the deadline set.

What we offer
KS3 (Yr7-9)
At Key Stage 3 pupils learn how to use a variety of software to enable them to create effective products. Throughout their learning we aim to promote an awareness of the impact of computers on our lives and to encourage students to consider which software is appropriate for a task. Project-based work allows pupils to learn how to plan, design, create and evaluate their work.

GCSE and A Level
All students in Years 10 and 11 follow the DiDA (Diploma in Digital Applications) Summative Project Brief laid out by Edexcel. Successful completion of the project leads to the Award in Digital Applications (AiDA) in ICT at Level 2, which is equivalent to 1 GCSE.

The qualification places emphasis on real-life skills. All assessment is paperless and pupils submit an electronic portfolio of work via Edexcel Online for onscreen moderation. In addition, those students who may wish to further develop their ICT skills can opt for the CiDA qualification (Certificate in Digital Applications) at Level 2 which is equivalent to 2 GCSE’s. Units available for this qualification include Multimedia, Graphics, ICT in Enterprise and Games Authoring. Both awards feature 100% coursework.

The Level 2 qualifications in ICT are equivalent to GCSE grades A* to C and so provide a good basis for continued study at Level 3 or equivalent.
