Working at Claremont Fan Court School

employment

Claremont Fan Court School is a thriving, successful co-educational day school for pupils from 2½ – 18 years of age. Situated just outside Esher, in Surrey, 16 miles from London it is easily reached via the A3 or the Portsmouth Road, with plenty of parking available on site. The closest rail station is Claygate, a 25 minute walk away.

The original house and famous landscape gardens were first laid out by Sir John Vanbrugh for the Duke of Newcastle early in the 18th century. Later, Capability Brown built the present Palladian mansion for Clive of India and landscaped the grounds in his typical manner. For over a century, Claremont was a royal residence and played an important part in Queen Victoria’s early years. It is now the educational home to 750 day pupils taught by over 100 academic staff.

The School consists of the Preparatory School and the Pre-Preparatory and Nursery School for pupils aged 2½ – 11 years, along with the Senior School for pupils aged 11 – 18 years. Set up originally by Christian Scientists, the School is now an educational foundation with charitable status which is managed by a senior leadership team reporting to the Board of Governors. It is not a faith school but welcomes pupils of all faiths or none.

Claremont is an e-learning school with excellent ICLT facilities, offering all staff a real opportunity to use and enhance their skills. From Year 4 all children have their own laptop.

The academic year is 36 weeks inclusive of several INSET days for staff development opportunities. Staff contribute their talents to the host of co-curricular activities on offer both at lunch and outside of the normal teaching day. Lunch in term time is provided at no cost by our excellent catering team.

When asked why they like teaching at Claremont Fan Court, our teachers have said:
  • "the children want to learn"
  • "small classes mean I get to know each pupil"
  • "our children are very well behaved"
  • "I am well supported by senior management"
