Careers
Looking forward to life beyond school is central to Claremont Sixth Form. All sixth form students have a weekly dedicated Careers lesson, delivered by a specialist Careers teacher. This ensures that all students receive detailed personalised guidance, leading them to courses and career choices that are appropriate for their individual preferences. In 2011, 100% of students leaving at the end of their A2 courses gained university places – this testifies to the ability of the Careers department to match students effectively with their desired courses.
· ensuring knowledge and awareness of the opportunities open to them
· developing a positive attitude towards themselves
· training pupils in interview techniques
· providing support to achieve professionally completed application forms and CVs
· organising a biennial careers convention
· writing of personal statements and UCAS applications
· university visits are encouraged and organised.
This process is further supported by the Critical Thinking programme that invites guest speakers to talk about their lives and careers. Visits are also organised to the Old Bailey, the Houses of Parliament and the BBC to offer further stimulus to future directions.
Claremont is very pleased that it has an excellent record of securing university places for its students. The most recent destination list can be downloaded below.
