Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme is introduced to all pupils in Year 10. Throughout the year they complete a range of expeditions, team work and community volunteering projects in order to qualify for the bronze award.

After completing the bronze award they can continue working towards the silver and gold awards and thus the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme is an active part for many in Year 11 and Sixth Form too.

Expeditions are a key part of the scheme allowing pupils to demonstrate a range of practical skills. With each award the expeditions become longer and more challenging. The majority of expeditions take place at weekends in England and Wales, however some, such as the recent gold expedition to Morocco, can go beyond the UK.

To prepare for the expeditions, staff run regular workshops on topics such as first aid, navigating at night and camp-building skills. Staff also support pupils in finding local community initiatives to contribute to.
