Coloma Cup Lacrosse Tournament

11 March 2017

The U13 girls participated in the Lacrosse Coloma Cup with great success on Saturday 11 March.

Despite a slow start in the first pool game against Caterham C, Claremont came out on top with a 3-0 win. Good ball transitions were demonstrated in the next match against Putney A which set up goals for Molly G, resulting in a 4-0 victory. The girls then faced a strong St Catherine’s B team and after two great draws from Jessica F in the centre, Claremont were up 3-2 at half time but St Catherine’s brought the score back up for a 3-3 draw. Next came Dunottar where the girls defended well as a cohesive unit resulting in a gritty 2-1 win. The final pool game was against Caterham B team resulting in another 3-3 draw.

Claremont proceeded through to the semi-finals on goal difference to face Caterham. After a few fantastic draws and turnovers, the team finished the game on top, winning 5-0 – a great achievement to make the finals.

The girls faced a tough St Catherine’s B team in the final requiring their best performance. Claremont led 2-1 at half time and Sammy S made some excellent saves in goal. The ball was moving end to end with neither team maintaining possession over the other. It was a well-matched game but unfortunately Claremont narrowly lost 3-2.

Congratulations to the U13s for performing so well as a team and finishing runners up in the Coloma Cup. Thank you to the Year 7 girls for stepping up and playing a fantastic tournament.
