Bottle Rocket Challenge
6 March 2017
A group of Year 7 science enthusiasts took part in the Bottle Rocket Challenge. Armed with their homemade rockets, carefully constructed from empty drinks bottles, they competed to see whose rocket would reach the greatest height. A lot of effort had gone into making their rockets streamlined as well as stylish.
During Science Club the pupils met to prime their rockets with vinegar and wrapped bicarbonate of soda in a paper towel. We then moved outside and one by one the pupils put their bicarb roll into their rocket, this was followed quickly by a cork, and the rocket was launched. The results were excellent, the pupils excitedly watched as multitudes of different sized, shaped and coloured rockets whizzed up into the air. Prizes were awarded, fun was had and science was learnt.
