Senior School House Day Results
19 December 2013
The first House Day of the 2013-14 academic year was eagerly awaited by both students and staff in the Senior School of Claremont Fan Court School.
Each house sung two songs and then part of the school song. Norwood House was up first with an amazing version of David Guetta’s Titanium. They nearly raised the roof with enthusiasm and this coupled with brilliant dance moves meant that all of a sudden the other houses were aware that they were part of a real competition.
In keeping with tradition, the Head Girl and Boy were the MCs for the competition and Peter’s and Charlotte’s humorous commentary and astute observations kept the audience laughing throughout.
A particularly memorable moment was Radnor’s rendition of Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas which involved the house encircling the audience. Esher’s version of Radio Gaga was also very good.
Student enjoyment and participation in the choir competition has grown every year and this year saw another leap forward in terms of quality of singing and enthusiasm. However the dance moves are still some way off Diversity standard.
Then the school song was sung with real pride and passion. The judges’ scores were totalled and for the first time ever there was deadlock. One more round was quickly created with everyone singing the school song again to clarify a clear winner. The results were:
Film and Drawing
The winning entries in the film and drawing competitions were also shown and once again the whole school was blown away by the amazing talent amongst the student body. Winners of the film competition were: Eniola, George and Ollie. Winners of the drawing competition were: Lara, Alex, Niamh and Molly (some entries pictured).
Afterwards the pupils moved outside for House sports. The boys were playing ‘Claremont Football’, a mix between Aussie rules and Gaelic football. This new game meant full involvement and maximum enjoyment by all. There were some really exciting matches and all the boys are looking forward to playing this again next year. The girls played netball with Years 7-9 combining to make two teams and Years 10 to Sixth Form also combining to make two teams. All games were played in a friendly yet competitive spirit.
