House Report, Autumn 2013
9 December 2013
It has been an exciting start to the new academic year for the Claremont Fan Court houses. New house captains have been appointed and lofty targets have been set.
This year the Heads of House welcomed the new Head of Norwood, Miss Jenna Norsworthy. A member of Norwood for the past seven years, Miss Norsworthy has been involved in many house activities and coached many successful teams in a variety of sports. Her competitive nature, innovative ideas and sense of humour are a welcome addition to the already vibrant and active house system at Claremont. We are already benefitting from her contribution.
The house assemblies have been enthusiastic and noisy affairs as each house prepares their voices for the annual House Singing competition.
The film competition received some very professional entries in creative styles. The brief pupils were given was very simple: Claremont. The Heads of House thank all entrants and would like to make special mention to the prize winners: George N, Eniola A, Elena M, Frederic C, Conrad Z and Oliver D.
The house drawing competition was also held this term and the standard was even higher than previous years. Not wanting to stifle pupils’ creativity, the Heads of House decided on the same theme as the film competition (Claremont) and we received a variety of inspirational and innovative entries. It was evident from the entries that pupils put plenty of thought and effort into their drawings. Thank you to all the entrants and special mention must go to the winning entries: Lara F, Alexandra K, Louisa G, Eleanor M, Niamh E, Ruby W, Alice G, Prema D, Scarlett W, Ka Y, Molly H, Freya H, Zoe M, Sofia M and Sarah P.
A new house competition was launched this term, recycled fashion. The students were challenged to create an item of clothing or accessory that was made entirely of recycled materials. Well done to the girls that entered, especially Kathryn R, Nicola S and Niamh W, and we look forward to sparking more interest and more entries next year! (Photographs of entries viewable to the right).
We had a great House Matches day with netball and the new sport of Claremont Football (similar to aussie rules). House points have been calculated and green slip and commendations totals have been added to the overall points. Student participation and enjoyment are at an all-time high and the current totals are very close.
We are looking forward to more competition next term for the following house competitions: engineering, Jenga, jigsaw and the first ever Claremont Masterchef competition.
