School Council – Developing Democracy and Leadership Skills in the Senior School
Pupils at Claremont Fan Court School have the opportunity to influence the day to day running of the school. They are elected by their own year group and chaired by the Deputy Head Boy and Girl, have council meetings a number of times each term to share and prioritise and report progress on ideas. The emphasis is on improving fellow pupils’ experience at Claremont Fan Court Senior School.
This gives an opportunity to develop leadership skills such as public speaking, chairing meetings and negotiation skills. Members may also meet members of the Senior Management Team and the Estates and Facilities Manager in order to assess feasibility and progress new ideas. Pupils will also work closely with the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and support whole School events such as the Winter Family Fun Day.
In a recent initiative a number of attractive picnic benches were installed in the grounds for the benefit of all Senior School Pupils. Pictured here we have Rami dM, Amy S, Charlie T, Joe B, Charlie H, Gabrielle H, George R and Ben P.
