Scholarships and Exhibitions will be awarded to outstanding applicants for up to the value of 25% of tuition fees and are available for entry into Year 3, Year 7, Year 9 and the Sixth Form (Year 12). Scholarships and Exhibitions are available as follows:

Year 3: All Rounder Exhibitions
Year 7: Academic, Music and All Rounder (two from: art, music, drama, sport and citizenship) Scholarships
Year 9: Academic, Sport and Music Exhibitions
Sixth Form: Academic, Sport, Drama, Music and Art Scholarships and Academic Exhibitions
The Plimmer Award

In addition to the Sixth Form Scholarships, the two most outstanding applicants of the GCSE year will receive the Plimmer Award which bestows a 50% reduction in total of tuition fees for two years of Sixth Form study.

Scholarship and Exhibition applicants must complete the relevant application form prior to the published deadline and send to the Senior School office (Years 7- 6th Form) and the Junior School office (Year 3). YEAR 3 EXHIBITIONS (back to top)

Exhibitions are awarded for up to 15% of tuition fees

There are six all-rounder exhibitions for Year 3 (usually three internal, three external). These are awarded to applicants, following assessments, interview and school reference. Exhibitions will be awarded up to the end of Year 6 and are dependent on maintaining a high overall standard of achievement and endeavour.
The James Hamilton Scholarship Award
The James Hamilton Scholarship Award will be given to an outstanding applicant from the maintained education sector for entry into Year 3 (up to the end of year 6). This is a means tested award up to the value of 100% of tuition fees

YEAR 7 ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2012 (back to top)

Scholarships are awarded for up to 25% of tuition fees

Pupils are invited to apply for an academic scholarship to enter Claremont Fan Court School at Year 7. Applicants will sit the general entrance examination on Saturday 14 January 2012, with papers in English, mathematics and verbal reasoning.

The criteria for the award are as follows:
1. Applicants must be working at the equivalent of a National Curriculum high Level 5 (Level 4 represents achievement at the nationally expected standard for most pupils at the end of Key Stage 2.)
2. One school reference of support will be sought, testifying to good character, exemplary behaviour and strong community involvement.
3. An interview will be held with the Head and/or Deputy Head of the Senior School in which we will seek evidence of an inquiring mind, breadth of knowledge and sound moral judgement.

The Diana Hill Scholarship Award
The Diana Hill Scholarship Award will be given to an outstanding applicant from the maintained sector for entry into Year 7. This is a means tested award up to the value of 100% of tuition fees.
Scholarships will be awarded up to the end of Year 11 and are dependent on maintaining a high overall standard of achievement, effort and behaviour (achievement grades of A*/A and B and endeavour grades of 1-3 on the half termly grade card).

Application must be returned to the Head of the Senior School by 18 November 2011

 

YEAR 7 MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2012 (back to top)

Scholarships are awarded for up to 25% of tuition fees

Pupils are invited to apply for a music scholarship to enter Claremont Fan Court School at year 7.
The criteria for the award are as follows:
1. Applicants will be required to pass the general entrance assessment before being offered a Scholarship
2. Applicants should be able to demonstrate interest, commitment and achievement, for example, by playing in an orchestra, singing in a choir or through grade examinations.
3. Applicants need to offer two instruments, including voice, one of which should be at Grade 4.

4. Music scholars are expected to work hard to further their individual music studies and to make a significant contribution to the wider musical life of the school, through participation in at least two ensembles and a variety of concerts and assemblies each term.

Auditions will be held on Saturday 21 January 2012 for entry into the School the following September. The audition will consist of:

a. Performing a piece with or without accompaniment (we can provide an accompanist if required).
b. Suitable rhythmic tests
c. Suitable sight-reading tests
d. An interview will be held with the Head or Deputy Head of the Senior School and the Director of Music. Applicants should be prepared to discuss:
 the music that they have played
 musical achievements thus far
 musical plans for the future.

Two suitable references to support this application must be obtained and should be submitted with the application (a school template is available on the website)

Scholarships will be awarded up to the end of Year 11 and are dependent on maintaining a high overall standard of achievement and endeavour and continuation of the criteria above.

Pupils are invited to apply for an all-rounder scholarship to enter Claremont Fan Court School at year 7. Applicants will sit the general entrance examination on Saturday 14 January 2012, with papers in English, mathematics and verbal reasoning.
The criteria for the award are as follows:
1. Applicants must achieve high standards in the assessment papers (English, mathematics and verbal reasoning) interview and school reference.
2. One school reference of support will be sought, testifying to good character, exemplary behaviour and strong community involvement.
3. An interview will be held with the Head and/or Deputy Head of the Senior School in which we will seek evidence of an inquiring mind, breadth of knowledge and sound moral judgement.
4. Applicants should also offer strong evidence of success, by supplying a short written reference from a teacher or leader, in at least two of the following :
• music: voice or instrument at grade 3 level.
• sport: compete at club, district level or county level in a Claremont Fan Court representative school sport or a range of sports at school and club level.
• art: demonstrate an aptitude for art by presenting a portfolio.
• drama: perform at a high level at school, club or equivalent.
• citizenship: have demonstrated exceptional qualities and examples of citizenship at school, church and youth organisations.

Depending on the strengths offered, applicants must be committed to attending practices and activities and to participate in all team matches for which he or she is selected.

References to support this application must be obtained and should be submitted with the application (a school template is available on the website)

YEAR 9 SPORTS EXHIBITION FOR 2012 (back to top)

Pupils are invited to apply to apply for a sports exhibition to enter Claremont Fan Court Year 9.
The criteria for the award are as follows:
1. Selection and participation in either one sport at club or county level in a Claremont Fan Court representative school sport or a range of sports at school and club level.

2. External applicants will be required to pass the general entrance assessment before being offered an Exhibition.
3. Two references of support must be received testifying to good character, exemplary behaviour and strong community involvement. (Internal references should include one from the Head of Year and one other teacher).

4. Applicants must always demonstrate the highest standard of sportsmanship. Mentoring and coaching for younger players is expected. The applicant should have great enthusiasm for the subject and be willing, reliable, hard-working and able to persevere through to a successful outcome.

5. An interview will be held with the Head or Deputy Head of the Senior School and Head of Department in which we will seek evidence of an inquiring mind, breadth of knowledge and sound moral judgement.
 

Applicants must be committed to attending practices at lunchtime and after school and to participate in all team matches for which he or she is selected.
Applicants will be asked to attend school for a full day in January 2012 during which there will be a series of fitness tests to assess both their health and skill-related fitness. They will also take part in one or more of the major games played at the School.
A reference from a County Team or club, if applicable, should accompany the application form (a school template is available on the website).

SIXTH FORM ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2012(back to top)

Scholarships are awarded for up to 25% of tuition fees

Students are invited to apply for an Academic Scholarship to enter Claremont Fan Court Sixth Form. In addition to achieving a high level of academic success, applicants for a scholarship are expected to be exemplary members of the Claremont Fan Court community.

The criteria for the award are as follows:
1. Applicants must achieve a minimum of seven A or A* grades in GCSE exams including A grades in the subjects (or related subjects) which they intend to study at A level.

2. Two references of support must be received testifying to good character, exemplary behaviour and strong community involvement. (Internal references should include one from the Head of Year and one other teacher). A school template is available on the website.

3. An interview will be held with the Head and Deputy Head of the Senior School in which we will seek evidence of an inquiring mind, breadth of knowledge and sound moral judgement.

Year 10 modules and GCSE mock examination results will be used as evidence of academic achievement.

External students applying for Sixth Form Academic Scholarships will sit an examination in November comprising papers in English, mathematics and critical thinking. The same criteria as above will apply.
Offers, subject to final grades, will be made by the end of December with confirmation after GCSE results have been received in August 2012. Four and above Grade A passes will result in an Exhibition worth 15% tuition fee reduction.
Scholarships and exhibitions will be awarded for the full two year A Level course and are dependent on maintaining a good overall standard of achievement (minimum of three B grades at AS level for scholarships, exhibitions at the Head’s discretion) and endeavour (grades 1-3 on the Sixth Form academic review).

Application and references must be returned to the Head of the Senior School by 31st October 2011


SIXTH FORM SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2012 (back to top)

Scholarships are awarded for up to 25% of the tuition fees

Students are invited to apply to apply for a sports scholarship to enter Claremont Fan Court Sixth Form.
The criteria for the award are as follows:
1. Selection and participation in either one sport at county or national level in a Claremont Fan Court representative school sport or a range of sports at school and club level.
2. Applicants must achieve a minimum of seven A*-C grades in GCSE exams and upper B grades in subjects (or related subjects) that they intend to study at A level.
3. Two references of support must be received testifying to good character, exemplary behaviour and strong community involvement. (Internal references should include one from the Head of Year and one other teacher). We will be asking the student’s PE teacher to send a confidential reference directly to the Head’s office giving information on ability and achievements. A reference from a County Team or club, if applicable, should also accompany the application form. A school template is available on the website.
4. GCSE PE is not necessarily required, nor is the intention to study A level PE. Applicants must always demonstrate the highest standard of sportsmanship. Mentoring and coaching for younger players is expected. The applicant should have a passion for the subject and be willing, enthusiastic, reliable, hard-working and able to persevere through to a successful outcome.
5. An interview will be held with the Head or Deputy Head of the Senior School and Head of Department in which we will seek evidence of an inquiring mind, breadth of knowledge and sound moral judgement.

The criteria for a Sports Scholarship will take into consideration sporting ability and achievements, contribution to sports teams throughout the year, sportsmanship and leadership potential. Applicants must be committed to attending practices at lunchtime and after school and to participate in all team matches for which he or she is selected.
In November, applicants will be required to perform practically in their chosen sport(s) and to attend an interview. 
Offers, subject to final grades, will be made by the end of December with confirmation after GCSE results have been received in August 2012. Scholarships will be awarded for the full two year A Level course and are dependent on maintaining a good overall standard of achievement, endeavour (grades 1-3 on the academic review) and continuation of the criteria above.

SIXTH FORM DRAMA SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2012 (back to top)

Scholarships are awarded for up to 25% of tuition fees

Students are invited to apply for a drama scholarship to enter Claremont Fan Court Sixth Form.
The criteria for the award are as follows:
1. Applicants will need to meet the expected requirements of the school for entry into the Sixth Form of seven predicted A-C grades at GCSE, including an A/A* in drama and upper B grades in subjects (or related subjects) that they intend to study at A level.
2. An interview will be held with the Head or Deputy Head of the Senior School and the Head of Drama when the applicant should be able to produce evidence illustrating an active and ongoing involvement in drama and theatre and should be prepared to present an audition piece.
3. Two references of support must be received testifying to good character, exemplary behaviour and strong community involvement. (Internal references should include one from the Head of Year and one other teacher). A school template is available on the website.
4. Applicants must demonstrate to the interview panel that they will make a positive contribution to the School. The applicant should be willing, enthusiastic, reliable, hard-working and able to persevere through to a successful outcome. A willingness to participate in a varied programme of theatre visits and workshops and to assist in organising events in the Drama Department in conjunction with the Director of Drama is of the utmost importance.

Offers, subject to final grades, will be made by the end of December with confirmation after GCSE results have been received in August 2012. Scholarships will be awarded for the full two year A Level course and are dependent on maintaining a good overall standard of achievement (minimum of B grade in drama at AS level) and endeavour (grades 1-3 on the academic review).

SIXTH FORM ART SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2012 (back to top)

Scholarships are awarded for up to 25% of tuition fees
 

Students are invited to apply for an art scholarship to enter Claremont Fan Court Sixth Form.

The criteria for the award are as follows:
1. Applicants will need to meet the expected requirements of the school for entry into the Sixth Form of seven predicted A-C grades at GCSE, including an A/A* in art and upper B grades in subjects (or related subjects) that they intend to study at A level.

2. An interview will be held with the Head or Deputy Head of the Senior School and the Head of Art when the applicant needs to present a portfolio displaying skills in drawing, painting and sculpture.

3. Two references of support must be received testifying to good character, exemplary behaviour and strong community involvement. (Internal references should include one from the Head of Year and one other teacher). A school template is available on the website.

4. Applicants demonstrate to the interview panel that they will make a positive contribution to the School. The applicant should have great enthusiasm for the subject and be willing, reliable, hard-working and able to persevere through to a successful outcome. A willingness to visit art galleries and museums and an interest in researching art are required.

5. External applicants will be invited to attend a drawing test for one hour.

Offers, subject to final grades, will be made by the end of December with confirmation after GCSE results have been received in August 2012. Scholarships will be awarded for the full two year A Level course and are dependent on maintaining a good overall standard of achievement (minimum of B grade in art at AS level) and endeavour (grades 1-3 on the academic review).

BURSARIES AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

 
There are a number of Bursaries available. For external students, the School must be informed of the requirement for a Bursary at the time of application. Internal students should discuss with the Bursar any funding requirements. Both external and internal students may apply for a Bursary in addition to a Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded on merit irrespective of means. All Bursaries and other financial assistance are means-tested.
 
The James Hamilton Scholarship Award
The James Hamilton Scholarship Award will be given to an outstanding applicant from the maintained education sector for entry into Year 3 (up to the end of year 6). This is a means tested award up to the value of 100% of tuition fees
 
The Diana Hill Scholarship Award
Through the generous bequest by Diana Hill, a past Claremont pupil and long serving staff member, The Diana Hill Scholarship Award will be given to an outstanding applicant from the maintained sector for entry into Year 7. This is a means tested award up to the value of 100% of tuition fees.
 
Criteria for Award

Prospective parents should discuss their circumstances with the Bursar before making a bursary application. The amount of the Bursary (percentage of fees remitted) will be assessed before an offer of a place is made also re-assessed prior to entry into the School. The value of a Bursary is related to an applicant’s circumstances and may be for up to 50% of fees. Bursaries are reviewed annually.
 
The award of a Bursary is conditional upon an offer of a place at the School. If demand for Bursaries exceeds the number available, Bursaries will be awarded with reference to performance in the assessment procedure. The continued tenure of a Bursary is subject to satisfactory performance and good conduct and adherence to the School’s Terms and Conditions. Financial Assistance may be applied for at any time during a student’s time at the School in cases of unforeseen hardship or temporary difficulty, to ensure continuity of education in deserving cases.
 
As parents’ circumstances vary, criteria for qualifying for a Bursary are not disclosed and are confidential to the School. All aspects of a parent’s income are taken into account including salaries, assets (including property), other income, siblings and other relevant factors.
The Bursar is available to advise parents considering an application for a Bursary in advance of the application being made.

An application for a bursary should be made in a letter or email to the Bursar (bursar@claremont.surrey.sch.uk). A confidential means testing application form will need to be completed and can be downloaded from our website www.claremont-school.co.uk/admissions/scholarships and bursaries.
