Garden History Events

Our Garden History Events bring together experts for annual seminars and talks taking inspiration from the historical grounds that the School is located in. You can find information and videos of past events below as well as information about forthcoming events as they become announced.


In October 2016 Dr Kate Felus entertained visitors on the subject of Georgians and their Gardens in the Drawing Room at Claremont Fan Court School. Dr Felus explained the purpose of Georgian garden buildings for family entertaining and showed exapmles of Georgians relaxing in a number of previously unseen watercolours from the period.


We enjoyed hosting the Garden Lecture on Capability Brown's landscapes in April 2015.


In April 2014 we welcomed garden historian Dr Kate Felus, architect Michael B Phillips and landscape architects Dominic Cole and Chris Churchman to lead a panel discussion on the topic of sustainable historic landscapes. This event was organised in conjunction with the Garden History Society and the National Trust.

In March 2013 we invited Jane Brown to give a wonderful talk titled The Omnipotent Magician on the work of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown who was instrumental in the designing of the Claremont grounds.


In Septebmer 2010 Professor Timothy Mowl led a talk on Wiliam Kent titled Subverting the Palladian - WIlliam Kent and the Eclectic Urge.
