Years 3 to 6

We welcome you to  Claremont Fan Court  Upper Junior School where the building blocks for future learning are consolidated. You can expect a very high standard of education from our dedicated team of teachers. Our children develop as rounded individuals, educated for life.

We believe high levels of understanding will develop if children are allowed to learn with excitement and joy; if learning and character development go hand in hand. Their enjoyment and exploration of the beautiful Claremont estate provides an extraordinary backdrop for school life, supported by strong Christian values.

Friendships flourish and each child’s growing understanding is nurtured. Claremont Fan Court School is well known for its distinctive approach to the development of the individual where developing confidence and caring attitudes underpins strong achievements. Values for life are taught in a supportive and caring atmosphere with shared aims and aspirations between home and School.

From Year 2, pupils move to the Upper Junior School where they remain in class groups of no more than twenty pupils. They are taught primarily by class teachers who know each child well, but are increasingly introduced to specialist teachers as they progress through the school. Pupils take advantage of specialist facilities on the whole school estate for; sport, food and design technology, science, French, music and drama. Children are set into ability groups for mathematics and spellings to enable each child to progress in an environment best suited to their individual needs. Our pupils begin to take more and more responsibility, contributing to; the student council, acting as school guides, being elected House Captains, Form Captains and Sports Captains, they begin to understand how they can make a positive difference, that their ideas are valued.

We understand that children’s self confidence will flourish if their efforts are rewarded. There is a strong culture of praise at Claremont Fan Court with many opportunities for each child to grow in self respect. Pupil profiles are maintained with awards for individual academic and citizenship achievements together with examples of good work and records of contributions to school life. Rewards to recognise pupils achievements are given out in assemblies. Character qualities such as respect for others, honesty and taking responsibility are nurtured in the house system, with all pupils belonging to one of four houses. House points are given to pupils for good work and these, together with regular friendly house events, quizzes and competitions build good team spirit.

Our pupils achieve high standards in their studies in preparation for the Senior School’s academic curriculum. Their achievements at all stages in the Junior School are closely monitored to ensure that progress is made. We particularly value the strong links we establish with each family to ensure we work in partnership with parents. Our pupils move naturally to the Senior School continuing to work in an academic environment with the goal of preparing for GCSE and A level examinations and securing places at the best British and overseas universities.

Parents are kept informed of their child’s progress through day to day contact with teachers as well as through more formal opportunities. Parents are valued and active members of the community and help with reading, special events and trips, supporting class and school assemblies, concerts, matches and all the activities of a busy school community. There is also an active and very supportive PTA.

Come and join us at Claremont Fan Court Junior School where we develop the joy of discovery; inspire the development of individual wisdom; encourage freedom to think; and promote being ‘strong in understanding’, as stated in our School motto.

We would be delighted to meet you so that you can experience first-hand what we have to offer your child.

David Ford – Head of the Junior School
